In January 2012 I finally had my Porthacath operation.This is a metal and silicone device that is inserted into my chest wall and stays there untill it need replacing about 10yrs aproxx.This is so I can give myself intravenious drugs at home without having to be addmitted into hospital for a 2 week stay like I use too.
This means I do all my treatment at home so I dont need to spend time away from my family stuck in hospital all the time anymore.
I wish I would have got one years ago as it has made me so much healthier the past 11months. I have had 10weeks of IVs in the past 11months and having to be in hospital for that about if time is not going to work with 2 small children.
Im at my healthiest now december 2012 since 2003!!! My FEV1 is stable at 95% & on a good day 101%! I love my PORT its a pain as it needs to be accsessed every 8 weeks for flushing even when not in use but ITS MY BEST FRIEND.
